Aldolase levels are increased in muscle and liver disease as well as with myocardial infarction. Highest serum levels are seen in muscular dystrophy. Significant elevations are also seen in patients with acute psychoses and with malignancy. The test is used primarily with creatinine kinase for screening patients with muscle disease.
