Collection Processing Instructions
This test code must be ordered whenever an aseptically collected urine specimen may need to be cultured or have cytology performed. This order needs to be made in addition to other tests, i.e. Urine, Dipstick & Micro. Two labels will be generated--place one on the lid of the sterile container and the other on the body of the container. Send labeled specimen and "Hold" requisition form to Specimen Processing. Specimen will be held in specimen Processing refrigerator. Call Customer Service (ext. 1-6700) or use U-have order (Clinic) to order the culture, if needed (an additional requisition will not be needed). Specimens are held for 24 hours following collection.
 
Note:  Requests for "Urine, Hold for Culture/Cyto" entered as a comment to a "Urine, Dipstick & Micro" or similar request will not be honored, as this comment is not visible to testing personnel.

Interference
​Cytology - specimens not fixed within two hours of collection may be unacceptable. Consult Cytopathology with questions (800-222-5835, ext. 1-6155).
