22890 Mumps Immune Status

Mumps Immune Status
Test Code: MUMPSI
Useful For
This test qualitatively determines immune status for Mumps virus. It does not generate a titer or other numerical value. If a numerical value is required, order a MISC test and comment test for Mumps IgG, test number 0050390 to be sent to ARUP Labs. CPT code is 86735.

Test Information
This test uses a multiplex flow fluorescence immunoassay to detect IgG-class antibodies directed against mumps virus.

Interpretation
This test is to be used only to establisth serological status to mumps virus.  A positive test result may be due to immunization or natural infection.  A negative test result indicates a lack of anitbody to mumps virus marking the individual as a candidate for vaccination; conversely, a positive test has a high correlation with, but does not guarantee, immunity to that virus.

An equivocal result for this test indicates some reactivity of the individual's blood to the components of this test, but serological status cannot be determined.  In such cases the patient may be retested once to detect
sero-conversion; alternatively, vaccination may be considered.
