Test Components
This assay includes testing for the following disaccharidases:  lactose, sucrase, glucoamylase, and palatinase (isomaltase equivalent). 
Useful For
This assay aids in the diagnosis of disaccharidase deficiency.  Disaccharidase deficiency is the absence or diminshed activity of one or more of the disaccharidase enzymes located in the intestinal mucosa.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type Preferred Container/Tube Acceptable Container/Tube Specimen Volume Specimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
Pediatric Minimum Volume
(no repeat)
Small bowel tissue​ Small bowel biopsies in a sterile tube on DRY ice.  5 mg​ Biopsies less than 5 mg will be homogenized in a volume sufficient to complete testing.
Collection Processing Instructions
Specimens collected outside of Marshfield Center must be shipped frozen on dry ice to Marshfield Labs and stored at -80 deg C when received.  Specimens must arrive in Specimen Processing by end of day Monday through Thursday.  No Friday shipments.  Specimens received on Friday, will be held frozen until Monday.
