Test Information
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Marshfield Labs. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to perform high complexity testing.

This test is a LCMS/MS confirmation only for the amphetamines drug class. It is intended for use only in patients where an initial drug screening test has already been performed at the time of specimen collection (i.e. Point-of-Care drug screening cup, dipstick, etc.). The specimen will not be screened by immunoassay in the laboratory; it will only be tested by LCMS/MS. If an initial drug screen has not been performed at the specimen collection site, it is more appropriate to order the "Amphetamines, Urine" (AMP) test code which includes an initial screen. The test will detect the presence of amphetamine, phentermine, methamphetamine, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, MDA, MDEA and MDMA (Ecstasy).

The Amphetamine drug group includes a variety of drugs of abuse, diet aids, and vasoconstrictor/decongestants found in OTC cold preparations.

Marshfield

Negative.  Positives are reported with a quantitative LCMS/MS (phentermine, ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are reported with a qualitative LCMS/MS).

Interpretation
Methamphetamine metabolizes to amphetamine, therefore both can be present after use of methamphetamine.

The approximate detection time of amphetamines in urine is between 1-3 days after last use.
