25203 Microsatellite Instability (MSI) by PCR (MSI)

Microsatellite Instability (MSI) by PCR (MSI)
Test Code: MSIPSO
Synonyms/Keywords
DNA Mismatch Repair-related HNPCC, Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colon Cancer (HNPCC), Lynch Syndrome, Microsatellite Instability (MSI), Tumor Microsatellite Instability (MSI)
Test Components
Only microsatellite instability (MSI) testing is performed.
Useful For

Evaluation of tumor tissue to identify patients at high risk for having hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC)/Lynch syndrome.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type Preferred Container/Tube Acceptable Container/Tube Specimen Volume Specimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
Pediatric Minimum Volume
(no repeat)
This assay requires submission of 1 cm(2) tumor tissue and normal tissue  for comparison.
This can be 1 cm(2) in aggregate (eg 5 unstained slides each with 0.2 cm(2) of tumor and normal tissue).
Tissue (Normal Control) Fixed Paraffin Block (marked "Normal Tissue") and 2 H&E Slides Slides 1 slide stained with hematoxylin and eosin and 10 unstained, nonbaked slides 5-micron thick sections of the normal tissue.
Tissue (Tumor) Fixed Paraffin Block (marked "Tumor Tissue") and 2 H&E slides Slides 1 slide stained with hematoxylin and eosin and 10 unstained, nonbaked slides (5-micron thick sections) of the tumor tissue.
Minimum tumor adequacy is approximately 6x6 mm (5000 cells) of tumor, at least 40% tumor nuclei (can be present over multiple slides).  Normal tissue is also required to be present in tissue selected for testing.
Collection Processing Instructions

A Pathology report MUST accompany specimen in order for testing to be performed.
