Performing LocationReference Range
Marshfield

0-6 months of age:  0-70 ug/dL

6 months - 5 years:  27-153 ug/dL

Males >5 years:  80-151 ug/dL

Females >5 years:  88-183 ug/dL

Interpretation

Copper in serum is found in association with ceruloplasmin and alpha-globulin, and changes in the concentration of copper will be reflected in changes in ceruloplasmin level.  Copper deficiency may be observed in infants due to prematurity, malnutrition, malabsorption, chronic diarrhea, hyperalimentation, and prolonged milk diet.  Decreased serum levels are also seen in Wilson's Disease due to copper accumulating in the liver, brain, kidney and cornea.
