The C. immitis component will now report antibody responses to two distinct antigens, IDTP and IDCF. These results may be interpreted as follows:
- IDTP+/IDCF- Consistent with an early acute case of C. immitis infection.
- IDTP+/IDCF+ Consistent with an acute or early convalescent case of C. immitis infection.
- IDTP-/IDCF+ Consistent with a resolved or chronic case of C. immitis infection.
- IDTP-/IDCF- No serological evidence of C. immitis infection.
While IDTP & IDCF reactions closely follow those of IgM and IgG respectively, they are not strict measurements of those immunoglobulin classes.
Detectable antibody levels may not be present in patients with early, primary infections (first 3-6 weeks) or in immunosuppressed patients. Antibodies to B. dermatitidis, H. capsulatum, or C. immitis can cross-react to cause false positive reactions to other fungi that are detected in this test. Results should thus be considered in their entirety together with other diagnostic and clinical information.
