Test Information
Test includes quantitative IFA assay for the detection of IgM antibodies and qualitative ELISA assay for the detection of IgG antibodies to Measles (Rubeola) virus.
IgM may be negative if specimen collected prior ot appearance of the rash. The absence of IgM and IgG does not rule out measles infection, but may indicate that the patient is susceptible to infection. The presence of measles IgM is indicative of a recent exposure, but cannot differentiate between primary infection and vaccination.. IgM antibody is often postitive on the day of rash onset. However, in the first 72 hours after rash onset, up to 20% of tests for IgM may give false-negative results. Tests that are negative in the first 72 hours after rash onset should be repeated.
