22808 Ketoconazole Level (51685)

Ketoconazole Level (51685)
Test Code: MISC
Synonyms/Keywords
 Ketoconazole Assay
Useful For
Ketoconazole is an antifungal that impairs fungal cell synthesis of ergosterol, an imperative component of the fungal cell membrane. Tablets of ketoconazole may be administered orally in treating systemic infections, for which serum levels may be monitored. Ketoconazole may also be administered as a topical cream for the treatment of dandruff and tinea versicolor, but this application does not generate detectable serum levels. Measurement of serum ketoconazole levels may be helpful to optimize drug dosing regimens, particularly where there is non-compliance, concern about drug interactions, pharmacokinetic variability, or suspected toxicity.
