Rubella Immune Status
Test Code: RUBELLA
Synonyms/Keywords
 German Measles Antibody
Useful For
This test qualitatively determines immune status for Rubella virus. It does not generate a titer or other numerical value. If a numerical value is required, order a MISC test and comment test for Rubella IgG, test number 0050771 to be sent to ARUP Labs. CPT code is 86317.

Test Information
This test uses a multiplex flow fluorescence immunoassay to detect IgG-class antibodies directed against rubella virus.

Marshfield Reported as Immune, Equivocal or Non-Immune
Interpretation
This test is to be used only to establisth serological status to rubella virus.  A positive test result may be due to immunization or natural infection.  A negative test result indicates a lack of anitbody to rubella virus marking the individual as a candidate for vaccination; conversely, a positive test has a high correlation with, but does not guarantee, immunity to that virus.

An equivocal result for this test indicates some reactivity of the individual's blood to the components of this test, but serological status cannot be determined.  In such cases the patient may be retested once to detect
sero-conversion; alternatively, vaccination may be considered.
