Myoglobin is unstable at the native pH of urine even when frozen. Adjust urine to pH 7-9 by addition of sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate solution. Alternatively, add 8-10 mL of urine to a "Uric Acid Aliquot Tube". See aliquotting of 24-Hour Urines for Multiple Tests. This tube containing dried sodium carbonate when filled with this volume will raise the pH to the desired range. Store refrigerated overnight or freeze for longer storage.
