Test Information
Test Information
The DQBeta1*0602 marker is found in virtually all narcoleptics of African Americans, Caucasians, and Japanese however, it must be clearly understood that there are occasional patients who do not have the antigen and that about 25% of normal people have this gene. While DQA1-0102 has also been associated with narcolepsy, no commercial labs offer this testing as it is still a research tool. Additionally, testing for DQB1-0602 is a better test than serologic DR2 testing for narcolepsy risk assessment at this time.
Reference Range Information
Reference Range Information
Reported as positive or negative for HLA-DQB1*0602.
Almost 100% of narcoleptics are positive; about 25% of normals are positive.
Interpretation
Interpretations
If
DQB1*06:02
is not detected, the narcolepsy-associated antigen test result will be reported as negative for
DQB1*06:02
.
If the allele is detected, the result will be reported as positive for
DQB1*06:02
.
