Useful For
This test qualitatively determines immune status for Varicella Zoster virus. It does not generate a titer or other numerical value. If a numerical value is required, order a MISC test and comment VZI AB Immunity Screen, test number 41015 to be sent to Focus Diagnostics Labs. CPT code is 86787.

Test Information
This test uses a multiplex flow fluorescence immunoassay to detect IgG-class antibodies directed against VZV.

Interpretation
T​his test is to be used only to establisth serological status to VZV.  A positive test result may be due to immunization or natural infection.  A negative test result indicates a lack of anitbody to VZV marking the individual as a candidate for vaccination; conversely, a positive test has a high correlation with, but does not guarantee, immunity to that virus.
 
An equivocal result for this test indicates some reactivity of the individual's blood to the components of this test, but serological status cannot be determined.  In such cases the patient may be retested once to detect
sero-conversion; alternatively, vaccination may be considered.
