Useful For

​Patient must have HLA typing (HLATX), and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (MISC) completed at the Blood Center before HLA matched platelets will be available.  Refer to Versiti for specimen requirements for HLA-AB Low Resolution (2303) and HLA Antibody Identification Class I High Resolution (2226).

If patient's ABO/Rh is not recorded in the Blood Bank, a specimen is required.  See Specimen Requirements below.

Test Information

​The Health Unit Coordinator must check patient history to see if HLA typing (HLATX), and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (MISC) have been completed at the Blood Center before HLA matched platelets will be available.
Send completed HLA Platelet Request form, plus patient medication list to Blood Bank.
HLA typing (HLATX) needs only to be performed once, HLA Antibody Detection and Identification may need to be repeated depending on patient circumstances.

The Recipient must have HLA typing (HLATX), and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (MISC) completed at the Blood Center before HLA matched platelets will be available.

Recipient must also be blood typed before receiving this product. If patient's ABO/Rh type is not recorded in Transfusion Services, 6 mL EDTA whole blood (pink top tube) must be drawn for blood typing. Alternately, two 3 mL lavender top tubes can be used.
 
Transfsion Services will complete HLA-Matched Platelets Progress Note/Sticker when HLA matched platelets are available and will send it to the floor for HUC to place in patient's chart. HUC must complete Hospital Blood Bank test requests for every order to transfuse HLA matched platelets. Specify the number of units needed and dates to be transfused.
