Do not use a needle smaller than a 21 gauge for collection. Obtain appropriate volume of blood in first tube labeled DISCARD. Obtain same volume for the two sample specimens next and immediately gently invert tubes 5 times to mix anticoagulant with the blood. Do not refrigerate, freeze, or centrifuge sample specimen.
