25302 Liver-Kidney-Microsome-1 Antibodies, IgG

Liver-Kidney-Microsome-1 Antibodies, IgG
Test Code: LKM1
Synonyms/Keywords
LKM, LKM1, Autoimmune hepatitis type 2
Useful For
Useful in the diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH).  Type 2 AIH is characterized by the presence of LKM-1 antibodies, in the absence of antinuclear antibody (ANA), smooth muscle antibody, or soluble liver antigen (SLA) antibody.  The major target antigen of LKM-1 antibodies has been identified as cytochrome P450 2D6, a microsomal protein found in the endoplasmic reticulum.  LKM-1 antibodies may be detected in a subset of patients with chronic hepatitis C.  Definitive diagnosis of type 2 AIH should be based on the correlation of all available clinical, biochemical, and liver biopsy information.
