Test Information
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Marshfield Labs. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to perform high complexity testing.

This test is a LCMS confirmation only for Buprenorphone.  It is intended for use only in patients where an initial drug screening test has already been performed at the time of the specimen collection (i.e. Point-of-Care drug screening cup, dipstick, etc...).  The specimen will not be screened by immunoassay in the laboratory; it will only be tested by LCMS. If an initial drug screen has not been performed at the specimen collection site, it is more appropriate to order the "Buprenorphine, Urine" (BUP) test code which includes an initial screen.
This test will detect the presence of buprenorphine and its metabolite norbuprenorphine.

Buprenorphine is a member of the opioid family and is used as an alternative to methadone in the treatment of heroin addiction and as an analgesic for treatment of moderate to severe pain.  Buprenorphine is metabolized to norbuprenorphine.  Measurement of buprenorphine and norbuprenorphine assist the clinician in determining patient compliance with treatment.
