25507 Protein-Immunotyping (PEP,GAM,IT) and Beta 2 Microglobulin

Protein-Immunotyping (PEP,GAM,IT) and Beta 2 Microglobulin
Test Code: GAMPRIT
Synonyms/Keywords
Gammopathy profile, Monoclonal gammopathy profile, IF-B2 panel, Quantitative immunoglobulins in serum (IgG, IgA and IgM) with serum protein electrophoresis and Beta-2 Microglobulin
Test Components
IgG, IgA, IgM, Protein electrophoresis (Total Protein, Albumin, Alpha-1, Alpha-2, Beta and Gamma fractions), and Beta-2 Microglobulin.  Immunotyping may be ordered by interpreter, at an additional charge.
Useful For
Quantitative immunoglobulins and protein electrophroresis are useful for detecting or monitoring monoclonal gammopathies and immune deficiencies.  In inflammatory disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and Crohn's Disease, and in lymphoproliferative disorders such as Multiple Myeloma and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, serum B2 levels are frequently elevated, reflecting an increase rate of synthesis.  Serum B2 levels have also been predictors of longevity in patients with Multiple Myeloma.  Serum B2 levels may also be elevated due to renal insufficiency, and are useful in monitoring patients who have undergone renal transplants.

Test Information
Includes protein electrophoresis, immunoglobulin quantitation and beta-2 microglobulin quantitation.  Phenotyping of heavy chains and light chains (kappa and lambda) may also be performed by Immunotyping electrophoresis for pathologist/PhD interpretation, and will be charged separately
